Age-specific neuromuscular interaction during elderly habitual running

2015

Aim It has been reported that advancing age causes tendons to become more compliant and fascicles length shorter. This could then lead to enhancement of movement efficiency provided that the elderly adults can activate their muscles in the same way as the younger adults (YOUNG) during dynamic movements. This study was designed to examine the age-specific behaviour of the medial gastrocnemius (MG) fascicles and tendinous tissues together with lower-leg muscle activities when the well-trained elderly runners ran on the treadmill at preferred speeds. Methods The well-trained 11 elderly subjects (ELD) who have running experiences and 11 YOUNG were recruited as subjects. While ELD were running o…

Increased C-reactive protein implies a poorer stage-specific prognosis in colon cancer.

2013

To characterize the stage-specific prognostic relevance of preoperative systemic inflammatory response, defined by C-reactive protein (CRP), in colon cancer (CC) patients.Data from CC patients operated on from 1998 to 2007 at three hospitals from three different Nordic countries were collected retrospectively from national registries, local databases and/or patient records. Patients with emergency surgery, infection or auto-immune disease were excluded. Associations between clinical or histopathological variables and CRP were assessed. Patients were followed from the date of surgery to death or end of follow-up. Disease-specific survival (DSS) was the main endpoint. In total, 525 patients wi…

Towards Diagrammatic Patterns

2008

This article presents the idea that the graphical representation (concrete syntax) of a visual language can be specified based on some pre-defined diagrammatic patterns. A diagram from the Specification and Description Language (SDL) is used as illustration.

LCL - A Graphical Meta-Language for Specification of Language Constraints

2015

The Object Constraint Language (OCL) is commonly used for constraints in meta-model-based language specifications. However, it may be advantageous to have a domain-specific constraint meta-language optimised for language specifications. A survey of OCL usage in language specifications has been performed, in order to gain an understanding of common constraint patterns. This is used as a starting point for defining a new meta-language for language constraints, Language Constraint Language (LCL), that has an intuitive graphical syntax.

Specification of modelling languages in a flexible meta-model architecture

2010

Originally, meta-models were used to specify the structure (abstract syntax) of modelling languages. This is reflected both in meta-languages like MOF and Ecore, and the four-layer meta-model architecture. Presently, meta-modelling is used for specification of complete languages. In this situation, it turns out that the traditional meta-languages are not always expressive enough to capture all language aspects. This usually implies the use of more than one metalanguage in the meta-model architecture to cover the different language aspects. There are many approaches to address this challenge. In this paper, we analyze these approaches, and based on this analysis, we re-think the meta-model a…

Integration of IEC 61850 MMS and IEEE 802.22 for Smart Grid Communication

2017

The reliability of Smart Grid depends on two-way communication between substation and utility. IEC 61850 is an international standard defined to ensure interoperability between Substation Automation System (SAS). IEC 61850 services are mapped on the Manufacturing Message Specification (MMS) especially for meter data management system. MMS is the OSI protocol that run over TCP/IP or OSI networks to support IEC 61850 services. Presently, the MMS uses Ethernet as the layer 2 protocol. However, for long distance communication in remote areas wireless communication is the prefered mode. The Cognitive Radio based IEEE 802.22 is next generation standard for Wireless Regional Area Network (WRAN) th…

Review of IEEE 802.22 and IEC 61850 for real-time communication in Smart Grid

2015

Real time data communication in Smart Grid is a big challenge due to its vastness and complexities. Wireless Regional Area Network (WRAN) - IEEE 802.22 permits opportunistic use of television white space (TVWS) by secondary user, if it is not being utilized by primary user. This standard has the potential to transfer big data of smart grid in real time to control center. The IEC 61850 is the standard for electrical substation automation that uses TCP/IP for data transfer among different ‘intelligent electronic devices’ (IEDs). IEC 61850 consists of different message types which belong to different performance classes that are mapped to different communication protocols. The different perfor…

The shell-forming proteome of Lottia gigantea reveals both deep conservations and lineage-specific novelties

2013

19 pages; International audience; Proteins that are occluded within the molluscan shell, the so-called shell matrix proteins (SMPs), are an assemblage of biomolecules attractive to study for several reasons. They increase the fracture resistance of the shell by several orders of magnitude, determine the polymorph of CaCO(3) deposited, and regulate crystal nucleation, growth initiation and termination. In addition, they are thought to control the shell microstructures. Understanding how these proteins have evolved is also likely to provide deep insight into events that supported the diversification and expansion of metazoan life during the Cambrian radiation 543 million years ago. Here, we p…
